Sailing on top of the water....

I always thought if you have to have winter have a real one...Here on the Eastern shore we rarely get the chance to ice sail, this is one of those rare years.  Swan Creek froze across and allowed for a couple of days of great freeskating right outside our office at Haven Harbour Marina here in Rock Hall before the snow ruined the surface. Not much snow on the coast so we also got in a day up near Point Pleasant sailing off of Shore Acres Yacht Club.  Good times!
When winter gives you ice just sail on top!-Tom

Lender....

Looking at my site I realized its been a couple years since I updated this blog...A lot has happened since I last posted here.  The world has become slightly more complicated...  Politics, business and technology seem to have adopted a winner take all mentality.  Without getting political I have seen a shift in my personal concerns, wants, needs and desires...We now have three very grand grandsons to help keep things in perspective.  We have gone from a Kadey Krogen 42 to a Legacy 28 to our current escape vehicle this sweet little Eastward Ho 24 "lender"  named "Meander"
The cantankerous  outboard powered inflatables have been replaced with a 7' hard dinghy guided by a remarkably reliable pair of oars.
The big diesels replaced with dacron and aluminum, the marina slip replaced with a simple mooring ball.  "Meander" is a classic Eldridge McGinnis designed motorsailer with essentially no complicated systems...Perfect for a quick afternoon sail, overnight-er with the grandboys or a friendly "lend"...A "lender" is a boat so simple that you can lend it to a family member or friend and not have to worry about anything getting broken or them not making it back.  A boat who's refrigeration, air conditioning, running water, electric toilet, radar, chart plotter will never break...as they simply don't exist.  It feels right at this time in my life to have a "lender" to simplify, to go against the bigger is better trend...Possibly in the future a boat more substantial, more complicated...a boat that would be impossible to "lend" will steal my heart.
Until that happens anyone want to go sailing?

Long Winter...

The winter of  2014/15 will be one for the record books!
Here on the Chesapeake most boating activity has been limited to skating across not plowing through the water!  Spring is coming, the snow and ice will melt, we will float again....  In the mean time we put on our snow pants, rigged up some sailing gear and got our ice on!

Will this winter ever end?

Congratulations to David and David Dabney, this father & son team out lasted old man winter (barely) and sailed south in their new to them Caliber 40 LRC!  Their survey and sea-trial had been postponed many times this winter due to weather, but no one expected a foot of snow March 20th the day they arrived for survey!  We where able to dig them out and get them on their way by weeks end.

Here is their broker, SALTS own Charlie Kneller seeing them off...last report they where holed up at Hospital Point in Norfolk waiting for the beer to thaw and wind to lay down! ...brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Just around the corner...

...SPRING!

The holidays are a happy memory, the New Year slid under our feet and we find ourselves marching toward spring! It is that time of the year when we can not keep our thoughts from getting boaty... Time for the mid winter bilge checks, cover adjustment, battery monitoring, parts ordering, boat shopping....and in SYBC case....surveys, seatrials and closings!

Last Monday we splashed this beautiful 1983 Lippincott 36 (a what?) for sea-trial way up north in Riverside NJ. Bright blue skys, temps hovering in the low 20's, ice in the travel-lift slip... a glorious day for a sea-trial! The survey and sea-trial went well and another boat changes hands and lives. A slightly sad seller hands over the key but not the 29 years of good sailing memories (yes the original owner)...A happy buyer who will find his winter severly shortened by pleasent sailing images derailing his trains of thought....

...........I love my job!

Boat sales SIMPLY... doing it right (blogging not so much)

It has been over a year since my last blog, forgive me father.
I have been told that social media... twitter, facebook, blogging are necessary to stay relevant in the market place. Yet Salt Yacht Brokerage Company has managed just fine without my witty banter oozing into your spam folder for over a year! I have felt guilty about not parading every new listing or proud new owner out to the awaiting huddled masses by way of "faceblogskypwittring" (new word)... I'm sure its been tough on those I've passed over, but with all this free time from not twittering, blogging, facebooking (much) or skyping (not sure what that is) we have had time to sell lots of boats and actually sail a few!
There is always room for improvement so I will try and keep up with blog blog blog ...but if sales drop off.....

Next Blog.... "Has this boat ever been aground"

Shake up at Salt Yacht Brokerage Co, LLC

News Release 10th of September Two Thousand oh Ten: for immediate release to general public, News Media, all wire services and AP:

Tilley our fourth most productive salesperson has decided to take a leave of absence from Salt Yacht Brokerage Company to return to College in Vermont and assist her master in finishing up her senior year. Although she will surely be missed we are happy to announce that we have found a capable replacement to fill all four of Tilley's shoes....Genny
Genny is a young upstart pup rescued from Dundalk who although appears lethargic and unresponsive we have great hope that she will mature into a fine upstanding office dog that will someday respond to her name and actually stand up.... Stop by and say hi to Genny...

In other news...

We have had a great selling summer. Charlie and Ben have both been active and we have sold through most of our inventory. This summer has seen SYBC continue to grow and our focus on just doing one thing and one thing well is paying off! We just sell used boats. No new boat lines to push, No charter company to manage. SYBC "Simply selling boats!"
If you are thinking of moving up or out of boating give us a call.
We have the focus to make it happen! -
Cheers,
Tom

Salt Yachts Summertime...

Well it's the middle of summer and the living is easy...
Ben has landed a gig Captaining the "Ellsworth"... Echo Hills' Skipjack! To have the chance to skipper an honest to God authentic, real deal survivor of the age of sail is a once in a lifetime opportunity!
Ben gets to take small groups of extremely lucky kids out for a week of "Chesapeake Bay Old School"...a little bit of fishing, crabbing, reading, and self sufficiency never hurt anyone.

Chester River Runoff has released a new CD "Blue Heron Farm"...check it out it's great!
Runoff kicked off the new CD performing a few of their songs at Fountain Park last week and invited Charlotte (our youngest daughter) up on stage to sing along...

2nd annual "Team Salt Yachts Down River Race Campaign"

We left Charlie in charge and the remaining staff Ben, Melinda, Tilley and I did our part to make the winners of the down river race feel better about themselves.
Ben and Shelley sailed the infamous International 14 aptly named "BOTTOM"S UP" to a DNF. They may have finished if it didn't leak so bad and sink.
Sailing Rock Stars Bobby Martin and Chuck Rosica drove in from Riverton and sailed TEAM SALT YACHTS 1968 O'Day Mariner to a just as impressive DNF. RiverJoe made the trip and paddled his SUP "stand up paddleboard" to an early lead until his feet fell asleep.

CRAIG

Greenwood "Cookie" rode crew on the SALT YACHT chase boat and took over for RiverJoe standing tall on the SUP...

It was another great day on the water and as always the after party was superb.

Next year Salt Yacht promises to supply a couple boats that will contend!

Cheers,

Seems like forever since I've posted anything, vacations, work, life... seem to be consuming all my "waste time". We have been very busy here at SALT...hard to believe it was a year ago that we took the plunge. We are happy to announce that Charlie Kneller has joind the team. Charlie has been selling boats since Noah started wearing foulies. We are glad to have him helping out.

We are also starting to add video to our listings here is a taste.

Doing our bit...

Salt Yacht Brokerage Co. is pleased to announce our participation in this years Polar Bear Plunge! No, 20 degree temps. or frozen water would not keep us from sponsoring someone to take the plunge for us...Dan Divilio!

Can you imagine having the courage, strength, insanity to strip down in 15 degree wind chill and plunge into near freezing water to raise money? .. we couldn't either. Lucky for us Dan can, so a few bucks to help a great cause like the Special Olympics seemed like a no brainer...
Go Dan!

Its not to late to help out! Plunge

Difference between the men and the boys.....

For the second time in recent history the Eastern Shore has hosted very big small sailing regattas. First Oxford hosted the North Americans and this past weekend Rock Hall hosted 16 of the top R/C Laser sailors. Thanks to Sailing Emporium for the great site and Maury and friends for a great regatta. Congrats to David Branning for the big win!

Salt Yacht Brokerage Company was there and and would like to dispell any rumors that these are toys.
They are not, they are serious racing machines! True some are sailed by clowns but what fleet doesn't have a few clowns?

Next weekend the R/C Laser circuit/circus travels to the beautiful and majestic Cooper River... a scenic waterway that courses through Collingswood, NJ for the first ever "Black Saturday Regatta"

...Be There
Salt Yacht Brokerage Company might be!
